Managed Portfolio Service
Seven risk graded managed portfolios that use a core/satellite approach.
Reasons To Invest
A range of portfolios with different risk/return profiles to meet your requirements
Guided By BlackRock
Asset allocation guidance from BlackRock, one of the largest asset managers in the world, is the engine that drives the performance of the multi-asset funds at the core of our portfolios.
Core/Satellite
The core/satellite approach combines the benefits of a multi-asset fund with the benefits of a managed portfolio service.
Multi-asset for core exposure
Multi-asset funds provide actively managed, diversified exposure to equities and bonds. Active asset allocation and passive implementation helps to maximise the risk/return profile
Alternatives for Diversification
Alternatives offer additional diversification, they provide a different source of returns and can offer a degree of protection in stressed markets
Global Allocation
A global perspective allows us to select the assets that offer the best risk/return.
The portfolios
in detail
The 1OAK MPS provides advised clients with professional investment management. There are seven risk-graded portfolios which blend active/passive multi-asset funds with liquid alternative funds.
The 1OAK MPS is a platform-based solution built to work on any chosen investment platform. The core/satellite approach integrates the benefits of multi-asset funds with the convenience of an MPS and combines alternative funds with equities and bonds. The multi-asset funds used for the core offer an efficient way to gain exposure to equities and bonds.
We invest the satellite in a carefully selected and managed range of alternative funds that provide additional return, diversification and a degree of protection.
Benefits of the 1OAK MPS
The core of each portfolio is invested in multi-asset funds guided by BlackRock. These provide low-cost and efficient exposure to equities and bonds.
The satellite funds offer additional diversification, can generate positive returns that do not rely on rising markets and offer a degree of protection.
The portfolios are available to advised clients through investment platforms in the UK and internationally.

Investment Objectives
The portfolios aim to provide capital growth in the medium to long term. The lower-risk portfolios offer more stability with less risk to capital but are likely to provide less growth. The higher-risk portfolios offer the potential for more growth but come with greater risk to capital, and the fluctuations in the value of the portfolio from day to day are likely to be higher.
Investment Universe
The portfolios will invest in daily traded funds and ETFs.
The multi-asset funds used for the core will be UCITS funds that BlackRock guides.
The satellite funds will typically be daily traded UCITS funds and ETFs. We may select funds that are only available to professional investors. When we decide to invest in an asset only available to professional investors, we ensure that they meet the strict minimum criteria for liquidity, charges and transparency.
The portfolios can hold other securities, like investment trusts and other assets, if they meet strict criteria.
Investment Process
Each portfolio uses multi-asset funds as a core holding. We invest the bulk (around 80%) of each portfolio in multi-asset funds where BlackRock guide the asset allocation. These provide actively managed, globally diversified exposure to equities and bonds via low-cost passive investments. The allocation to multi-asset funds may vary over time but is expected to remain close to 80%. We may use one or more multi-asset funds but are unlikely to use more than two in any portfolio. We select the funds to have an appropriate exposure level to equity and bond markets for each portfolio.
The balance of the portfolio is allocated to actively- managed and alternative funds which are selected by 1OAK to complement the core holdings and to further diversify the portfolio. These satellite funds provide access to returns that are uncorrelated with equities and bonds. They also provide thematic exposure and are expected to provide protection to the portfolio when markets fall.
We choose the satellite funds and determine the allocation to each fund so that we maximise the expected return and minimise the risk (we use a measure of the worst losses that an investor may suffer as a measure of risk) while preserving the overall level of volatility that we expect from the benchmark mix of equities and bonds.
The blend of funds used in the MPS is constantly monitored by the investment team at 1OAK, who can make changes to the portfolio as and when required.

The Fund may hold assets directly or get exposure through a Swap. Where the Fund has exposure through a Swap, the return received by the Fund from the Swap will represent the performance of a multi-asset portfolio or “Strategy”. The Strategy includes broad representative indices that reflect the returns of various equity markets and types of fixed income securities. The Fund will use a Swap where the Investment Manager determines that the use of the Swap is more efficient or cost-effective than investing directly in an ETF. The Swap will offer similar or better liquidity than investing directly. The Fund will mitigate any exposure to the swap counterparty using cash collateral. The swap counterparty may incur costs in hedging its obligations under the Swap. The performance of the Fund will reflect the costs incurred by the swap counterparty in implementing its hedging Strategy but will not be included in the TER or OCF. This includes any fees of the Investment Manager relating to the management of the Strategy which are paid or reimbursed by the swap counterparty under the terms of the Swap
